Cuisinart CRC-400 Rice Cooker Review
65Cuisinart CRC-400 Brief Review
About 2 months ago, I purchased the Cuisinart CRC-400 Rice Cooker, from an online merchant. It took only 3 days to arrive at my front door, and when I took it in the house and opened it, I was wondering if it was worth the $50 investment.
Well, I have to say that time answered this question!
I have used it many times since then, and already the “Cuisinart” label on the rice paddle handle is beginning to fade.
The Cuisinart CRC-400 is excellent, and if you want a set it and forget it way to prepare rice, then this item is a good choice.
Not only will it make up to 4 cups of rice, but it also features a stainless steal steaming basket at the top which allows you to cook other foods such as chicken, fish, vegetables, and shrimp at the same time.
This is a very convenient benefit to the Cuisinart CRC-400, and is the main reason why I strongly considered it over other models.
Why just have something that will just take care of rice?
Another great thing about this rice cooker is that it is very easy to clean! Rice will not stick to the Teflon basket, and rinses with ease when scrumbed using a soft sponge. It is also dishwasher safe. (not the unit itself).
So…
Pros:
Cooks rice in a decent time frame, as well as steaming.
Is very easy to clean and has durable parts.
Fits comfortable on any countertop due to its small toaster-like size.
Will not run up huge electric bill.
Cons:
Some things I do not like about it is that it is not “touch friendly” when in use. In other words, unless you have a hot glove or something similar, expect to get burned if using your bare hands.
Also be careful when taking the lid off the steaming basket when tending to food. There is a small hole in the glass cover that allows steam to escape, and I got burned a few times when taking it off. Nothing serious, but by instinct I dropped it and I’m lucky it did not shatter.
So, just use some care when handling the parts when it is cooking/steaming.
Other than that, the Cuisinart CRC-400 rice cooker is a serious item to have around the house. That is if you enjoy rice more than twice a week!
Did I mention the manual comes with some great recipes as well?

On the positive side, you dropped the lid a few times but at least you know that the lid is very resistant! ;-)
I agree with you on the note that you gotta use it often to make it worthwhile. I use my rice cooker, other than cooking rice, also to keep soups, stews and curries warm when I have friends over at my place.
It's VERY ueful because I don't have to watch the stove, and the food is kept warm. Very convenient during the Winter!
This rice cooker is a great addition to any kitchen. I love the steamer basket addition which allows me to cook additional food items at the same time as my rice. The steamer basket is great for hard and soft boiled eggs. When using this cooker, make sure that you go by the directions on the rice itself, not by the instructions in the manual (rice to water ratio). Also, the rice does have a tendency to boil over. I usually put a little butter in with the rice to prevent this from happening. I'm very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend it.

Hello, and nice review of this rice cooker!
I would like to share and mention that this cooker sometimes boils over with some rice types. Of course a simply fix is to add a little olive oil, and rinse the rice before cooking.
At least this is what I have experienced, maybe this hasn't happened to you...?
Also, the keep warm mode sometimes kicks in a bit too late crusting the bottom layer of rice.
But other than that, this is a fair unit.
